Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 7, 2026
ShopHop ("we," "us") is an iOS app for discovering garage sales, estate sales, and single items for sale nearby, and for buying and selling locally. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using ShopHop, you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
- Account information: your name, email address, and password (stored securely by our backend provider), and an optional profile photo.
- Listings and content you create: item photos, titles, descriptions, prices, and the garage sale, estate sale, or single-item details you choose to post.
- Location: with your permission, your device location is used to show nearby sales and listings on the map. You can also save a home location to anchor the map instead. Listing locations shown to other users are approximate (displayed as a general area, not your exact address) until you choose to share more.
- Messages: chats between buyers and sellers are stored so we can deliver them between devices and investigate reports of abuse.
- Support requests: messages you send through Help & Support (and any email replies in those threads) are stored so we can respond and keep a record of the conversation.
- Purchases: if you buy the No-Popup Pass (a one-time in-app purchase), the purchase is processed by Apple. We and our purchase partner (RevenueCat) receive transaction records (such as product, price, and status) — we never see your payment card details.
- Device and usage data: push notification tokens (so we can deliver notifications you've enabled), anonymous view and tap counts on promoted listings, and basic technical logs used to keep the service running and secure.
How we use information
- To operate the marketplace: showing listings, powering search and the map, and delivering messages, alerts, and notifications.
- To process the No-Popup Pass purchase and honor it across your devices.
- To keep the community safe: investigating reports, preventing fraud and spam, and enforcing our Terms of Service.
- To respond to support requests.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Who we share information with
- Other users: your profile name, photo, listings, and approximate listing location are visible to other users. Your email and exact location are not.
- Service providers: we use Supabase (database, authentication, and storage), RevenueCat (purchase management), Resend (support email delivery), Apple (payments and push notifications), and Expo (app services). These providers process data only to provide their services to us.
- Legal: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account in the app, or by emailing shophopappsupport@gmail.com from your account email with the subject "Delete my account." When your account is deleted, your profile, listings, and messages are removed from active systems, subject to limited retention required for legal, safety, or fraud-prevention purposes.
Your choices
- Location: you can disable location access in iOS Settings, or use a saved home location instead; without either, the map will have limited functionality.
- Notifications: you can disable push notifications in iOS Settings, and tune sale alerts in the app under Profile → Alerts.
- Sponsored popup: the periodic sponsored popup can be permanently disabled with the one-time No-Popup Pass.
- Access and correction: you can edit your profile in the app, or contact us to access or correct your information.
Meeting in person
ShopHop connects local buyers and sellers who complete transactions in person. Use common sense when meeting: public places, daylight hours, and bringing a friend are always good ideas. An in-app safety guide is shown to every new user and available anytime under Profile → Meetup Safety. We do not conduct background checks on users.
Children
ShopHop is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard providers and safeguards (encrypted connections, access controls) to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date, and notify you in the app when appropriate.
